Nov 14 Not just children's day

Diabetes has become increasingly prominent in our society these days… more or less a lifestyle disease…Diabetes mellitus (DM), commonly referred to as diabetes, is a group of metabolic disorders in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. Symptoms of high blood sugar include frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased hunger. If left untreated, diabetes can cause many complications. Serious long-term complications include cardiovascular disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease, foot ulcers, and damage to the eyes. Prevention and treatment involve maintaining a healthy diet, regular physical exercise, a normal body weight, and avoiding use of tobacco. Control of blood pressure and maintaining proper foot care are important for people with the disease. Type 1 DM must be managed with insulin injections.

Diabetes day was celebrated on November 14. In its observance, a seminar comnpetition was arranged in the Department of Zoology.

Diabetes day observance

In connection with the diabetes day observance on Nov 14, we organised a seminar competition in the association. Amrutha Ajayan, Ayana P.S and Anjana Raveendran from the 3rd, 2nd and 1st year classes respectively gave wonderful presentations.

Hey, helloo... Last day I forgot to show the photograph of the "unique mtcw label" we devised under special conditions. Have a look, it is a simple technique and can be used at homes without any expertise. The highlight is that, it is water-proof too....

Started our attempts to make our classes green and clean.. Students came up with lovely ideas. Trying to turn these ideas come to life. Will get back on this matter after we are come out successfully.

Though this week commenced with the rains, the sun came out by noon. After hours of classroom sessions, we spend a few minutes in our little butterfly park. It was a beautiful experience.... observing and learning- that is exactly the ''learning from nature ''. Hope this little assignment would help in developing an interest in Nature exploration.

Saturday, June 18, 2016

Last week again, was a busy one... cleaning activites continued.. A salute to all our girls- both MSc and BSc- who played a lead  in planting, cleaning the pond and gardening too..

Thursday, June 9, 2016

It was a really wet day today..
We had planned some activities in connection with the "world environment day" observance. Biju Sir had made all major arrangements too. But we doubted if we can make it due to the heavy rains. When it was noon, it seemed as if the rain has ceased for the time being. We all...both staff and students of the department made a sudden move.... Equipped with ploughs, we marched right into the garden.. Weeding and ploughing, we prepared the ground for the new plants. It was fun, real fun. We planted several medicinal plants after labelling them in a "ünique mtcw manner"
