Mangalavanam.....
The dream destination....
Mangalavanam is an ecologically sensitive area situated at the centre of the Indian city of Kochi. Covering about 2.74 hectares,it also houses a shallow tidal lake connected with Kochi backwaters by a canal. It is situated behind the Kerala High Court building. It is a nesting ground for a large variety of migratory birds and supports many types of mangroves. The Managalavanam is often regarded as the "green lung of Kochi", considering its role in keeping the city's air pollution under check. The area is a roosting place for many kinds of resident and migratory birds.
Finally on the third year degree students (12) made the dream trip possible on July 8, 2017

The
Government Botanical Garden is a botanical garden in
Udhagamandalam, near Coimbatore(Ooty), Tamil Nadu state, India
laid out in 1848.The Gardens, divided into several sections, cover an area of
around 55 hectares, and lie on the lower slopes ofDoddabetta peakThe
garden has a terraced layout. It is maintained by the Tamil Nadu Horticulture
Department.
It ascends the slopes of the hill at
an elevation of 2250–2500 metres above Mean Sea Level. The garden enjoys a
temperate climate, with an average rainfall of 140 cm, the most of which
is received during south-west monsoon, with frosty nights from November to
February. It was beautiful seeing the various section- lower garden, new
garden, Italian garden, conservatory, nursery,
rocky garden,etc… The small herbs planted to display the map of India was
really a sight worth seeing.

Pasteur has an Institute in India????
We visited the prestigious institute - Pasteur Institute- on February
8,2017. It was very informative… We saw a lot of equipments and devices which
was was only a hear-say earlier. Pasteur
Institute of India, Coonoor is one of the leading Institute in the production
of Antirabies Vaccine and DPT group of Vaccines for the Expanded Programme of
Immunization of Govt. of India. This Institute started functioning as Pasteur
Institute of Southern India, on 6th April 1907 and the Institute took a
new birth as The Pasteur Institute of India (registered as a society under the
Societies Registration Act 1860) and started functioning as an autonomous body
under the ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi
from the 10th of February, 1977.
Pomological station?????
Pomological Station is a well
known research institution of the country. The institution is engaged in
research of Apples, Plums, Peaches, Persinments, Lemons, Apricots and
Pomegranates. The station is one of the three experimental fruit gardens
positioned in the Nilgiri ranges, managed by the Horticultural Department.
It is located in the middle of Burliar and Kallar on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam Ghat Road. Along with the station, surplus fruits and fruit based jams are sold on the roadside.

This attraction of the Coonoor hill station is one among
the 3 experimental gardens of fruit; it is located in the Nilgiris. It is a
place where Agricultural Departments doing the research over the different
types of fruits. The garden had been started during the year of 1920. Here you
will get to see the scientific methods & present the nursery plants. They
do the various experiments on the preservatives, which are made by the fruits
to keep them in fresh condition.

Water falls are beautiful
Athirappilly
Falls the most famous waterfalls of Kerala, Athirappalli and Vazhachal are
situated at Athirappilly Thaluk
in Thrissurdistrict of Kerala, India on the Chalakudy River ,
which originates from the upper reaches of the Western Ghats. At the entrance to the Sholayar ranges is the
largest waterfall in Kerala, Athirapally, which stands tall at 80 feet. Just a
short drive from Athirapally, the Vazhachal waterfall is close to dense green
forests that are home to many endangered and endemic species of flora and
fauna.
There is another waterfall on the way
from Athirappilly to Vazhachal Falls, in close proximity to the road and is locally
called “Charpa Falls”. Athirappilly Falls is the
largest waterfall in Kerala and is nicknamed "The Niagara of
India".
The visit to the Athirappily waterfalls was memorable and beautiful . We spent our time enjoying the greenery and spinkles of water.

Cancer day observance
Turmeric is also known as Indian saffron, jiang huang,
haridra and haldi. It is a spice grown in many Asian
countries. It belongs to the ginger family and is a major ingredient
of curry powder. Research has also shown that there are low rates of
certain types of cancer in countries where people eat curcumin at levels of
about 100mg to 200mg a day over long periods of time.It has a powerful anti-inflammatory
effect, inhibita angiogenesis and inhibits a number of cancers like colon,
prostate, breast,lung, liver, stomach, ovary and leukemia. Realising its
importance turmeric tuber was distributed among staff on the Cancer day Feb 6
